The AUC Innovation (Seeding) Grant program for 2008 is designed to inspire creative people and to foster innovation. In early May I applied for an for this grant to further develop the concept of using an Apple iPod Touch to help System Administrators manage their labs in a more time efficient way. .

As a part of receiving the AUC Inovation Grant, I attended a workshop at the University of NSW… The purpose of this workshop was to allow grant recipients to meet the program mentor Senior Lecturer in Human Interaction Design Daniel Woo, learn how to get support, learn about reporting obligations, establish a project timeline, and network with other grant recipients. Each Grant recipients gave a 10min presentation on their project ideas & goals.

During the workshop Daniel touched on a few of the skills required to successfully develop software applications.. Some of these skills included mind mapping, using sketches to get your ideas on paper, Cocoa (Objective C for OSX), and viewing applications from a users point of view…

For mind this was a great way for each of the Grant Recipients to get to know each other, and to get to better understand what deliverables were required for this years grant..

The class of 2008 inlcudes:

Kyle Butress :: Griffith University

Dale Lawson :: University of Queensland

Volker Kuchelmeister :: University of New South Wales

Jonathan Manning :: University of Tasmania

Alistair Campbell :: Edith Cowan University

Sam Thorogood :: University of Sydney
